A fantastic creation from the Canadian artist Leopold Foulem. A recipient of the Order of Canada, he is a master in ceramics with a profound knowledge of the history of art. His approach to his art is full of humour and provocation, and invitation to consider his ceramic pieces as sculptures in themselves.

A beautiful inspiration for my project, Chinese Bird Design tapestry.
Birds have special meaning in Chinese art and their symbols are complex. For instance the crane is a symbol for longevity whereas the peacock, of dignity and beauty. Looking beyond the obvious is always interesting.

- The Broken Kilometer by Walter de Maria is an astonishing work. Time seems to stand still when one experiences Walter de Maria’s art. They are magical… This particular one has been on display at the Dia Art in NY since it was created in 1979, and its companion piece, The Vertical Earth Kilometer, created in 1977, is on view in Kassel, Germany.

The Chandeliers rise again.
The story behind the world famous Metropolitan Opera House chandeliers is an interesting one. Their shape was inspired by an accident, a splash of white paint onto Tad Leski ( of Harrison & Abramovitz) sketch, minutes before the presentation to Rockefeller. The Austrian government donated them to the U.S. and J.&L. Lobmeyr designed and created them.

Mona Hatoum -Hot Spot
Hatoum’s message is clear, the earth, represented by a spherical cage-like structure is full of unrest, political conflict.
The colour red takes it even further, suggesting the earth is ablaze and everybody is affected. Global warming, political unrest, humanitarian issues, they all come to mind.
